Who: Culinary Camp is a program for disabled adults. Under the guidance of Evelyn Knight (Heritage Park’s assistant Cafe manager) people with disabilities will have the joy and fun of taking part in preparing the snacks for HPAC Kids Camps.
Participants will enjoy a varied schedule of learning, participating and helping with food preparation from our Cafe located in the main foyer of Heritage Park.
The Cafe will provide a place for 8 disabled adults to create 2 kid friendly snacks/ day and one special lunch for our day camp children. (There can be up to 120 children plus 15 leaders attending HPAC Kids Camps.)
The Culinary team will develop skills in:
Basic Food handling, the safe & proper use of kitchen utensils, cooking, baking, table setting, snack preparation and cleaning procedures.
In addition, these 8 people will experience aspects of how to set up a kitchen in order to facilitate a Cafe and receive training in front counter service.
Each Culinary team member will receive an apron, a hat, a name tag and a culinary skills binder.
At the close of each week, there will be a celebration to invite their family and friends to attend so the participants can highlight their skills and share a simple meal together.
The staff to participant ratio will be kept low in order to ensure that each team member has an opportunity to develop a skill set that some day could be used in other food preparation settings.
